The 12th Pillar of Your Potential
I have always enjoyed using the 12th month of the year as a time to catch my breath and digest the lessons from the last 365 days.
The 12th Personal Best Pillar of Success is, “Embracing Silence”. It is intentionally put in place in December as a reminder for me to take the time to reflect on all I have to be grateful for. I have always found if I don’t slow myself down and allow myself to create the list and take a full inventory, I often forget how many blessings I have. Forgetting the blessings for me allows the defeats, disappointments and hurts to invade my mental space.
I also use December as a cleansing. I will look back on the year and remember all of the challenges that came my way. I will review the empowering lessons I learned from each situation and leave the bitterness. Have you ever met someone who does the opposite, taking the bitterness and not learning… it’s not an inspiring person to be around?
To do this at the level that is valuable to me, I have to welcome in and create separation and silence so I have the think time I need to follow the discipline of this yearly ritual. The TV, the internet and the noise in my life is cut way back for the 30-day period so I can capture the very best from the process.
The Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu said, “Simplicity. The basis for our reality and our existence is elemental and uncomplicated. Human beings create a lot of trouble for themselves by making everything more complex than they need to be. If we learn to simplify our lives, we can experience a profound satisfaction that is infinitely more meaningful than the rewards of the material world.”
December hasn’t started yet. You get to determine the kind of December 2023 you can have. If the ideas that I share make sense to you, then “Embrace Silence” and give yourself and your family a real sustainable and last gift for the Holiday Season.
My next weekly articles will be sharing simple implementations you can make that will help you tremendously with becoming more mindful in in control of your thoughts. Until then, take a deep breath, fill your lungs to full capacity and slowly let the air out knowing that your potential needs you to find and then Embrace Silence.
