Screen Time vs. Focus Time: Tech Tips for Martial Artists so you can Focus on YOU!

In today’s world, technology is everywhere—from phones and tablets to video games and smart TVs. While screens can be fun and even educational, too much screen time can make it harder to focus, especially in the dojo.
At Personal Best Karate, we believe training your focus is just as important as training your kicks and punches. If your mind is busy bouncing between TikToks, texts, Facebook, and games, it’s tough to be present, confident, and in control on the mat.
Here are three tech-smart tips to help our martial artists of all ages sharpen their focus:
???? 1. Power Down Before You Power Up
Try turning off screens at least 30 minutes before class. Give your brain a break so you arrive calm, alert, and ready to train your best.
???? 2. Create a Tech-Free Zone
Set up a “focus corner” at home—no screens allowed! Use this area to practice forms, stretching, kicking skills, or simply breathing and reflecting.
???? 3. Swap One Scroll for One Skill
Next time you’re tempted to scroll through social media, trade that time for a karate challenge: 50 jumping jacks, 5 strong stances, pull off some burpees or pushups, or part of a form or leadership skill with your best focus!
Mastering technology is part of mastering yourself. The better you manage your screen time, the stronger your focus will be—on and off the mat.
Let’s stay sharp, stay present, and stay on the path to being our Personal Best!
