Happiness is Key to Claiming you are at your Personal Best

As a boy, I think what drew me to Martial Arts was the demeanor Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee had in their movies. Both characters had their share of adversity both physically and mentally, but I always watched in awe at how calm they were under the most stressful of circumstances. They found their focus, did what they needed to do and then went back to their normal happy life.
Are you happy? Does the answer depend on when you are reading this? Are you a person that exudes happiness all the time? I think you may agree with me there are certainly moments in life where happiness permeates everything around us. Many have experienced flow states where everything just seems to fall in place and moves in the right direction. Don’t you love when that happens? The challenge is that often the complexity of life doesn’t allow for euphoric environments around us. So how do you handle yourself when the “daily grind” threatens to steal your happiness away?
Here are some suggestions from Personal Development expert Brian Tracy that will keep you focused on the right things and give you more daily joy and happiness in your life.
Outstanding Relationships
The first category is your desire for happy relationships. You want to love and be loved by others. You want to have a happy, harmonious home life. You want to get along well with the people around you, and you want to earn the respect of the people you respect. Your involvement in social and community affairs results from your desire to have happy interactions with others and to make a contribution to the society you live in.
What are some small commitments you could make to strengthen relationships that are important to you?
Enjoy Your Work
The second category is your desire for interesting and challenging work. You want to make a good living, of course, but more than that, you want to really enjoy your occupation or profession. The very best times of your life are when you are completely absorbed in your work.
What can you do to fall in love with your work or career? Remember one third of your life will be spent there, that’s a lot of time if you are simply there for the paycheck. Teach your children how to love what they HAVE to do and will change their life for the better.
Control Your Attention
Life is very much a study of attention. Whatever you dwell upon and think about grows and expands in your life. The more you pay attention to your relationships, the quality and quantity of your work, your health, the better they will become and the happier you will be.
What negative thoughts about people or situations have invaded your mind and are stealing your time away from being the best you can be? A guaranteed source of permanent frustration happens when our attention is distracted by things out of our control. Recognize this habit in yourself if it is there and then be sure to help your children avoid the trap of “stinkin’ thinkin’.”
Enjoy Excellent Health
The final category is your desire for good health, to be free of pain and illness and to have a continuous flow of energy and feelings of well-being. In fact, your health is so central to your life that you take it for granted until something happens to disrupt it.
What activity could you engage in that would provide a lifestyle of health for your body and mind? Commit to step up and engage in the activity guilt-free because you know it isn’t taking time away from your family - it is what makes you a better YOU, and that is good for everyone in your life.
There are still plenty of hours before the clock strikes 12 on December 31st to think though how you can incorporate these “happiness habits” into next year. All in favor of an even better more happy 2014 say “I”. Good luck!
