Finding a Role Model: The Power of Studying Success
Posted: February 16, 2025
At Personal Best Karate, we believe that growth comes not just from training but from intentional learning. One of the key pillars of success is finding a role model and making a true study of their habits, actions, and mindset. By doing so, we increase our confidence, competence, and self-esteem while reducing anxiety and uncertainty on our journey.
The Importance of Studying Role Models
The word study means more than just watching; it means embracing learning and investing time in understanding. A true role model provides a blueprint for success, but it's up to us to take that knowledge and implement it into our own routines.
Reflecting on my early years in competition, my role model was my teacher, Billy Blanks. Before becoming known for Tae Bo, he was one of the top fighters in the world. I observed everything about him—his diet, his training methods, his warm-ups before competition, his strategic thinking, and even how he handled both victory and defeat.
I didn’t just admire him from afar. I studied his techniques, mimicked his drills, and practiced them repeatedly until they became second nature. I uninstalled old habits and replaced them with the successful ones I saw in him. This wasn’t a passive process—it was an active transformation that helped me achieve my goals.
Learning from Role Models in Your Own Journey
For both children and adults at Personal Best Karate, this principle is a game-changer. Whether you are working towards a black belt, refining your technique, or aiming for personal growth in any area of life, studying a role model will more than double your chances of reaching your goals. But the key is to do more than just watch—we must implement their habits into our daily lives.
For Parents: Encouraging Personal Best
Personal Best isn’t about being better than someone else—it’s about being the best version of yourself. Encourage your children to find role models who inspire them and help them develop habits that lead to success.
For Teens & Adults: Creating a Path for Growth
As you train, ask yourself these questions:
✔️ Do I put my attention on my role model’s daily actions?
✔️ Do I limit the time spent on habits that do not contribute to my growth?
✔️ Have I tracked my time to ensure I am focusing on the right actions to reach my goals?
By answering these questions honestly and making small, consistent changes, we can all move closer to our personal best.
Let’s commit to studying success and embracing the habits that will help us grow—on and off the mat!
Stay strong, stay focused, and keep striving for your Personal Best!
