Children These Day…..
Posted: February 02, 2023
I was speaking to a parent/teacher who works with children every day. She absolutely loves her job the team she works with and the children she teaches.
That being said, she was adamant about the fact that children today seem to lack the resilience of children when she first became an educator some 30 years ago.
What’s the reason for this? While there are a lot of things to point to, I can tell you for sure my daughters never experienced the drudgery of having to go to the heavy leather-bound encyclopedias to find what they were looking for, rather they just went to their BBF Google and entered typed. They never sat for hours trying to figure out homework alone, rather they just Facetime a friend and work on it together. Finally, they never had to walk 5 miles to school without shoes…. Never mind…. neither did I.
The point is with all the advances in technology making our lives easier, they take away some of the naturally occurring friction that is inherent in normal life activities. For this reason, I believe the program at Personal Best is more important that it has ever been.
Students are presented with achievable challenges that require consistency and effort to succeed. This helps to build the resiliency week in week out so that they learn first-hand about grit, resiliency, problem solving in action and determination. We also incorporate into the classroom important life lessons that will be with them their whole life.
Afterall we never outgrow the ability to push through resistance.
