3 Ways to De-Stress in December
Posted: December 09, 2019
The holidays are upon us and if you are like most what comes with the holiday cheer is the Holiday stress. Stress in December comes in many forms; the stress of what to get the stress of the year ending and still having things to do and maybe the stress of increased traffic and shopping lines. Well here are a few tips to help you turn down the stress and use the time to bring you back to center.
-
Turn drive time into your time. Face it, we can’t control the traffic but we can control what happens (most of the time… kids can though an occasional monkey wrench in) in our cars. For the month of December, take a break from your routine and commit to just listening to holiday or classical music… whichever makes you feel more centered and happy.

Make the best part of shopping standing in checkout lines. When you are actually shopping you need to be focused on where to find the items, how much they cost and if you are getting enough. When it’s standing in the check out line all decisions are done and you can use this time to turn your mind off. Focus on something on the wall, count back from 50 or slow your breathing down by inhaling for 2 seconds holding from 8 seconds and exhaling for 4 seconds. Whichever you prefer the longer the line the better for you by the time you get to the register.

Schedule your “Invest in yourself time” first. As you are planning your week ahead, make sure you build in those things that you love to do first and let everything else filter around them. Face it “The busy” naturally happens the “love to do’s” does not. If it is working out, walks, meditation or whatever makes you feel centered, make sure as you look at your week and ensure you have enough “off ramps” from the craziness to make you feel encouraged as you look at your week.
